What is Property? An Inquiry into the Principle of Right and of Government

by P.-J. Proudhon

A pamphlet that answers its own title question with a single notorious word, and then spends the rest of the book making the argument stick. Proudhon meant to provoke, and every subsequent debate about ownership owes him a footnote whether it admits it or not. Read it as the opening argument it is, not the final one.
