The Wealth of Nations

by Adam Smith

An economist explains, at very considerable length, why a country’s wealth comes from what it produces and trades rather than what gold it manages to hoard. Smith more or less invented the vocabulary an entire discipline still argues in. It is denser than most of this shelf, and more foundational than nearly all of it.
