The Bucolics and Eclogues(eBook #229)

by Virgil

Ten short pastoral poems in which shepherds sing, grieve and compete, while the land confiscations after the civil wars go on in the background. The fourth, which foretells the birth of a child who will bring back the golden age, was read for centuries as a prophecy of Christ. They were Virgil’s first book, finished in his early thirties.
