The Jungle

by Upton Sinclair

A young immigrant comes to Chicago for a decent life and instead documents, meal by meal, exactly what goes into the meat his readers have been eating. Sinclair meant to write about labour and instead accidentally rewrote the country’s food safety laws. He said afterward he aimed for the public’s heart and hit its stomach.
