Riders to the Sea

by J. M. Synge

A one-act play of 1904, set on an island off the west of Ireland, where Maurya has already lost her husband and sons to the sea and watches her last son set out for the mainland. Synge wrote it after his summers on the Aran Islands. It runs to barely half an hour on the stage.
