The Library After Dark

Drama

Lysistrata

by Aristophanes

Athens and Sparta have been at war for twenty years, so the women of Greece, led by Lysistrata, seize the treasury and refuse their husbands until they make peace. Aristophanes put it on in 411 BC, in the middle of the real war. It is still very rude and still very funny.
