Poetry

Gitanjali

by Rabindranath Tagore

“Song offerings”: Tagore’s own English prose versions of his Bengali poems, published in London in 1912 with an introduction by W. B. Yeats. The next year Tagore became the first writer from outside Europe to win the Nobel Prize in Literature. The poems speak to God, or to a beloved, or to both at once.
