Mystery

The Woman in White

by Wilkie Collins

A drawing master walking home across Hampstead Heath at midnight meets a young woman dressed all in white who has escaped from an asylum. What follows is a conspiracy of swapped identities and forged records, and one of fiction’s great villains, Count Fosco, with his white mice. Collins tells it in the voices of many witnesses, as if assembling evidence for a trial.
