The Songs of a Sentimental Bloke

by C. J. Dennis

Bill, a larrikin from the back streets of Melbourne, falls for Doreen and tells the whole story of their courtship and marriage in verse, in the slang of the street. C. J. Dennis published it in 1915 and it sold in enormous numbers, many copies going to soldiers at the front in a pocket edition. It comes with a glossary, which you will need.
