The Works of Edgar Allan Poe — Volume 2
Read it in the Library After Dark Or read it as plain textThe second volume of a man who invented the detective story, several strains of horror, and a fair portion of American poetry, largely out of financial desperation. Poe believed a story should aim for a single unified effect and cut anything that did not serve it. Even his failures are precise about exactly what kind of failure they intend to be.
