The Adventures of Kimble Bent

by James Cowan

Kimble Bent, an American-born soldier in a British regiment, deserted in Taranaki in 1865 and went over to the Māori who were fighting it, living with them through the wars that followed. In old age he told his story to James Cowan, who published it in 1911. It is one of the strangest true stories of the New Zealand Wars.
