Coelebs in Search of a Wife

Hannah More’s only novel, of 1808, follows a young man in search of a wife with every Christian virtue, and he finds one. It was a great success, and Cassandra wrote to Jane about it. Jane replied that her disinclination for it before had been affected, but now it was real: “I do not like the Evangelicals.”
