Directions for Navigating on Part of the South Coast of Newfoundland

by James Cook

Before he sailed to the Pacific, James Cook spent five summers surveying the coasts of Newfoundland, and his charts were so good that they were still in use a century later. These are the sailing directions he published to go with one of them. It is short, practical and full of soundings, and it is where the great navigator made his name.
