Edison’s Conquest of Mars

by Garrett P. Serviss

Wells’s Martians have been beaten, and the nations of Earth send a fleet of electric ships, designed by Thomas Edison, to strike back. Garrett P. Serviss wrote it as a newspaper serial in 1898, within months of The War of the Worlds and without asking Wells. It has some of the earliest space suits and space battles in fiction.
