The French Revolution: A History

by Thomas Carlyle

The manuscript of the first volume was accidentally burnt in 1835 while in John Stuart Mill’s care. Carlyle rewrote it, and the published history appeared in 1837. The Cinder Archive’s scorched binding represents the lost draft; the text you can read is the surviving published work.
