The Library After Dark

Librarianship

A Library Primer

by John Cotton Dana

Dana wrote for the librarian of a small town who had to do everything at once: choose the books, catalogue them, mend them, and persuade the public to come in. What I like is his insistence that a library is a host before it is a storehouse. He would have approved of the lamps being left on.
