The Library After Dark

Wonder

Mars

by Percival Lowell

The Boston astronomer Percival Lowell built an observatory in Arizona to watch Mars, and saw a network of fine straight lines he believed were canals, dug by a people saving their last water. This is his case, argued carefully and with his own drawings. The canals were not there, but this book fed nearly every Mars story on this shelf.
