Sea

The Riddle of the Sands

by Erskine Childers

Two young Englishmen go duck-shooting in a small yacht among the sandbanks of the Frisian coast and find the Germans rehearsing something they should not. Published in 1903, it was read as a warning and taken seriously in Whitehall. The fog, the tides and the charts are as much a part of the plot as the spies.
