The Library After Dark

The Time Laboratory

The Red Room

by H. G. Wells

A young man who does not believe in ghosts volunteers to spend a night in a castle’s haunted room, and the old people who keep the place are in no hurry to change his mind. Then the candles begin to go out, one after another. Wells gives the haunting a name at the end, and it is worse than any ghost.
