Extraordinary Voyages

Dick Sand: A Captain at Fifteen

by Jules Verne

A fifteen-year-old apprentice must take command of a whaler when the captain and crew are lost, and the ship is sabotaged toward the slave coast of Africa. Verne writes openly against slavery here, whatever his limits elsewhere. This is another English translation; the library keeps each one, because translators disagree in interesting ways.
