My Brilliant Career

by Miles Franklin

Sybylla Melvyn, clever, restless and furious at being poor and plain, grows up on a struggling farm in the bush of New South Wales and refuses the life laid out for her. Miles Franklin wrote it in her teens, and it was published in Edinburgh in 1901 with a preface by Henry Lawson. Australia’s best-known literary prize is named after her.
